THE SURGEON
Mr Michail Kokkinakis is a consultant children's orthopaedic surgeon with a particular interest in children and adolescent sports injuries, hip complex reconstruction surgery, hip and knee arthroscopic surgery, cerebral palsy, complex feet pathologies and paediatric trauma.
Mr Kokkinakis became Honorary Senior Lecturer of King's College London University in August 2018 and he is actively involved in research and post-graduate teaching.
He is the first to have performed a hip arthroscopy on a paediatric patient at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital in 2015. He has since set up and is leading on a newly developed, state of the art hip and knee arthroscopic service for children and adolescents at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Mr Kokkinakis was awarded a Clinical Excellence Award in 2018 by Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust in recognition of his exceptional personal contribution to achieving the delivery of high quality care to his patients and to the continuous improvement of the NHS.
Mr Kokkinakis deals with complex paediatric and adolescent hip problems and performs major hip operations for Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH), Perthes disease, Slipped Upper Femoral Epiphyses (SUFE) and Femoro-Acetabular Impingement (FAI). This includes procedures such as triple pelvic osteotomy, periacetabular osteotomy (PAO), surgical dislocation of the hip (SDH), minimal invasive anterior hip arthrotomy for osteochondroplasty and complex proximal femoral osteotomy.
A large aspect of his practice includes management and application of modern strategies to deal with children and adolescents with neuromuscular problems including cerebral palsy He subspecialty interest in complex reconstructions for displaced hips and Single Event Multi Level Surgery. In addition to his NHS Consultant role, he is the co-chair of the Cerebral Palsy Integrated Pathway for the South East of England (CPIPSE).
Michail is an ordinary member of the British Society for Children’s Orthopaedic Surgery (BSCOS), the British Society for Surgery in Cerebral Palsy (BSSCP) and the European Paediatric Orthopaedic Society (EPOS).
